    Description

    Do you have a Vintage Sony (some other brands also) reel to reel deck that will not run the correct speed, slows down after running a while, and the motor gets hot to the touch?  The motor run capacitor is causing your problems and needs to be replaced.  The original capacitors in the units are silver round metal can shaped capacitors.  These are a newer more reliable type of capacitor.  They are electrically IDENTICAL and work exactly like the old one.  They DO NOT however get old and leak like the original capacitors. If your reel to reel was designed to operate on 50hz (overseas) and 60hz (US), the old capacitor will have three tabs and say 1.5uf and 0.5uf on the side.  The 0.5uf is ONLY for using the unit overseas and does not have to be reconnected when replacing the capacitor.  If the old capacitor says 350VAC on the side, this is still the capacitor you need.  In the US the unit is only operating at 110v.  That wire(s) can just be cut and taped.
